Our failure at the Beijing Summer Olympics has received differing reactions both across the mainstream media and the blogosphere, prominent views amongst them are those which express dismay and blame the athletes for being either too confident or underestimating to the significance of rigorous practice.
Mind me, sports in the Philippines really took a dwindling status since the day it became one of the avenues of politicking including public relations, promotion of personalities, betting and gambling, and electioneering. Sports is being used as an instrument of blowing the egos of politicos stuffin' our athletes with promises of material wealth and yes, for the love of money everything became commercialized from basketball to boxing, the reason why the Philippines cannot erect a monument of prominence in the world of the best sporting nations.
On Solar Sports I watched a teary athlete from our Olympic contingent complain that he was not given enough attention during his preparations. It is true that they were trained just months before the Games (Philippines Sports Commission Chairman Butch Ramirez admitted it), something quite portending of the results when compared to countries whose athletes had already been training for the events more than three years earlier. Worse, the Olympian said that he practiced in irregular periods with non-permanent trainors and monitormen, reflecting the situation of our delegates whose needs in the field were not given immediate support. They were treated insignificantly and left to themselves like hens expected to lay golden eggs after some time. Our strategies are very far from other nations' which study with close scrutiny the performance of their players during practice, providing proper recommendations and additional facilities to improve them whenever necessary. It doesn't need much money because the right mind would no doubt apply improvisation, as what contingents from poor countries in Africa and South America did which led them to exceptional successes that even broke records.
Our athletes should not be the ones to blame. Put the target on the backs of the PSC and the Philippine Olympic Committee for not learning from the two previous Olympiads where we likewise zeroed in the medal tally. Sports is never improved but misguided, and there is no optimum technology advanced to the athletes; I would not be surprised if facilities used in their trainings were substandard.
And of course she is not happy. PSC's Ramirez picks the gun but saves his head by arguing that “the PSC has not received money it should be getting” for sufficient training of our Olympians.
That makes a ridiculous stimulus out of the cash incentive the government raised to 15 million per gold medal. I do not believe that the best idea they could think of was to put a carrot in front of a donkey to make it move, though our players were not into the pledge, but still it made a wrong motivation when the P10M additional to the P5M the cash incentive law provides per gold medal could have done a very big help if appropriated as training funds. But it was too late. It is difficult to energize someone to try to do it money in mind over rickety matter. What they need was improved technology and close attention to enhance their systems to a degree comparable to the upper-box if not champion performers of the world.
Dammit. The light of Reason and Common Sense is really closing along the chaotic horizon of the always-dimming Philippines.
P. S. It is in Wushu where we got our only gold medal; however, Wushu being only an exhibition sport, the victory is not counted in the medal tally. Nevertheless it gives some consolation; glass of water for a strong pint of intoxicating wine.

Before you start reading, just to remind you of the Philippines medal count = BIG 0, zilch, Nada. Bokya. Thanks Peping Cojuangco, the rest of the Philippine Sports Commission, our corrupt government officials, all the millions of basketball fans who have no idea that basketball is not the only sports in the world and the Philippines will never win any medal (maybe Kutchinta puede) in basketball in the next thousand years. It's common sense, basketball is a game of giants with exceptional talent and prowess in ball handling and smart team plays.
As usual our pathetic tiny delegation to the Olympics came out with nothing but memories and souvenirs. What do you expect from a country where corrupt and destructive politics rules. Peping Conjuanco of POC and most of all the officials appointed in the Philippine Sport Commision are die hard trapos appointed to the positions due to political patronage. What do they really care about sports? Everything in the Philippines that is tainted by poliltics goes down the drain (meaning the pockets of the greedy politicians) and national sports development ( did we ever had one?) is riddled with corrupt self serving politicians. With a 90 million population, surely the country should have an unlimited pool of potential good athletes. If sending to Las Vegas a delegation of Tongressmen and GMA lapdogs to an extravagant junket, wasted a million dollars or more of the country's money just to watch a Pacqiao fight deserves a medal... then nobody beats the Philippines. For that alone, we could win Gold hands down. Show me a good plan or policies for Philippine sports development and I'll read you a good fairy tale. We could not even afford to provide toilets for our poor public school children what more of a long term sports plans and development programs. Shame on our politicians but then what else is new?
So start doing something about it, everyone in the Philippines complains about the politics.. stuff them.. get of your lobots, move thoise legs and start your own sport organisation.. but you will not, why you do not have the money. In England we never win much either, but this year we did.. HOW.. with lottery funds.. we spent a fortune on bikes, equipment and training..and when we won medals, everyone wanted to see our bikes, equipment, helmets, clothing.
The Philippines has the same size population as the United Kingdom...it can be as good as we have been this year, it has the sports stars of the future.. what the Philippines always lacks is self believe..it has no dreams, it is always complaining...it has simply the wrong mind set the wrong attitude...change those and you can change the world..ISANG PILIPINAS BAYAN KO, MAHAL KO
This is a blatant shame. From a Filipino who viewed, expected and vigilantly watched from abroad for representatives of her own country to at least perform , you could just imagine how frustrated I was. Thank God, I didn't hold my breath otherwise I could have turned blue. :)
One thing that made my jaw dropped was the fact that there were only 17 ( if my figure is correct) athletes parading on the pompous opening Beijing Olympics. My foreigner husband asked me, with a country of 80 million people only 17? Preposterous as it may seem but I ended up nodding my head agreeing in shame. In Croatia, the total population is 4 million but the representatives who proudly strutted with pride were 103 sportsmen.
There you go! Now, you see the hideous irony and reality happening in the Philippines.
Fuck Philippines... A country full of boastful people trying to reach what other countries have achieve. Brainwashing his countrymen by saying "Magagaling ang Pinoy" Fuck that bastard! Noon time show are the worst!!! Politics and Media are the one who governs this pathetic low life country.
Question: Are you "proud to be pinoy"???
There are two types of pilipino "Rizal and Bonifacio" Rizal want's our country to be ruled by other rich country while Boni will sacrifice his life for freedom... F*CK BONIFACIO!!! And f*ck those who idolize him!
